Hello! My name is Nidhi Sthanki, and I'm 17 years old. I was the Louisiana Representative for the TSU Speak Up 2023 epilepsy conference. Through TSU, I met some of the sweetest people I know (Sophia, Mika, Alexa, Sole), and we connected instantly. Sophia helped me get into the Milo&Me epilepsy group chat, and I am so excited to finally have a support group that understands what I have gone through.
I was diagnosed with absence seizures when I was just 12 years old. Due to being at a private school, I was outcasted as a middle schooler for various reasons, the main one being that I "acted weird" when in reality, I was having up to 100 seizures a day.
Though my seizures have been controlled with medication, my biggest fear is having them come back. Going through high school with epilepsy has been challenging but humbling since I can't always do what my friends do, like drive.
Fun facts about me: After my seizures were controlled in 2019, I memorized 700 verses of the Holy Bhagavad Gita (Hindu scripture) in Sanskrit in 10 months. Last August, I performed it with perfect pronunciation and memorization and 1500+ participants in Dallas, Texas, which achieved a Guinness World Record for the Longest Simultaneous Hindu Chanting. I will also attend college in the fall of this year at LSU. I plan to become a neurologist as well to help others with similar experiences I have had.
I cannot wait to share more with you guys! So excited to be part of such a supportive and accepting group of people!
